NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION
City of El Reno, Oklahoma
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CALLING AND HOLDING OF A GENERAL ELECTION IN THE CITY OF EL RENO FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING ONE (1) ELECTED OFFICIAL AS MAYOR OF THE CITY OF EL RENO; ONE (1) ELECTED OFFICIAL AS COUNCIL MEMBER FROM WARD TWO (2); SETTING FORTH CERTAIN FACTS AS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW, AND DIRECTING THAT THIS RESOLUTION BE DELIVERED BY THE CITY CLERK AND/OR DESIGNEE TO THE SECRETARY OF THE CANADIAN COUNTY ELECTION BOARD FOR THE PURPOSE OF GIVING SUCH OFFICIAL NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION.
BE IT RESOLVED, by the governing body of the City of El Reno for the purpose of electing officers of said City that a non-partisan general election, if needed, shall be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that one (1) official shall be elected at large as Mayor of the City for a three-year term, and one (1) official shall be elected from Ward Two (2) for a four-year term to serve as City Council Member, whose boundaries are defined in Chapter 35 of the Code of the City of El Reno.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the mayoral candidate receiving the highest number of all votes cast will be elected outright to a term that will expire on November 14, 2028.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the council candidate who receives the highest number of all votes cast within Ward Two (2) will be elected outright to a four-year term that will expire on November 20, 2029.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, all candidates must reside within the City of El Reno and must have been a registered voter within the municipality for at least six (6) months prior to filing a declaration of candidacy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that any candidate running for a council seat must reside in the ward they seek to represent.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that each candidate must be a qualified elector of the City, and shall file for said Office with the County Election Board of Canadian County, Oklahoma – all as provided by Article VII of the Charter of the City of El Reno, Oklahoma. The filing period for City Council Member or Mayor shall be no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025 and no later than 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that absentee ballots shall be prescribed and utilized as established by the Oklahoma State Constitution and Law.
