Downtown & Route 66 Reinvestment Program

EL RENO, Okla. – The City of El Reno has adopted a new Downtown and Route 66 Revitalization Program to enhance the exterior appearance of commercial properties and create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

Under Resolution No. 260-012, the City of El Reno will allocate up to $20,000 toward the program, which will provide a 60 percent reimbursement—up to $5,000 per address—for eligible improvement projects. Funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all available resources are exhausted.

Eligible properties include commercial buildings along Rock Island, Bickford, and Choctaw (including Russell, Woodson, and Hayes) between Wade and Rogers, as well as commercial buildings along Route 66 from Alfadale Road to Reformatory Road.

Qualifying projects must provide permanent, external improvements to the front or side of a building facing a public street. Examples include painting (including murals), awnings, exterior signage, veneer restoration, windows, and doors. Seasonal decorations, window painting, and plants or flowers are not eligible for reimbursement.

Projects must be completed and reimbursement requests submitted no later than March 1, 2026. If required, construction permits must be obtained, though fees will be waived for projects approved under the program. Any unused funds as of February 2, 2026, will be reallocated for economic development and tourism initiatives.
